Coming out to fight can be a nerve wracking experience even for the most seasoned of fighters but Benji Caan of England was ready to go against Wuttichai Sor Jor Piaktapong this past Sunday on the Max Ultimate show. After three rounds of hard hitting action the bout was ruled a draw with both fighters giving it there all and winning a super bonus reward of 10,000 baht each.

“I felt great, I was nice and relaxed,” Beji said of his training camp and moments before entering the ring. “I wanted to take a different approach than in my last bout against Boonmark. I wanted to make sure that I didn’t run in, that I didn’t fight a 3-round fight in the first round.”

Easing into a fight and understanding the pacing can be difficult especially when there is a lot of pressure on the line. “There was a lot of talk and hype with the Boonmark fight,” Caan said. “I rushed it and it didn’t go in my favor. Hats off to Boonmark though.”

This time around Caan was more composed but that didn’t mean there weren’t problems in the three-round war. “I had trouble finding my hands and my range which was why it was a tricky fight,” he said.

For fighters like Caan going into battle isn’t something to dread, something to fear, or something to worry about. Instead it’s a lively event. “The week of the fight I get a happy energy. When you walk into the ring that’s the happiest spot. You get nervous but I really enjoy fighting,” he said.

The bout was close and it was difficult to tell who would win even for those sitting ringside. “I thought I had maybe pulled it in the 3rd to get the win. I made some mistakes though. It was a great fight. I hope to Wuttichai had some fun too,” Caan said.

While he said, it wasn’t his best performance Caan was pleased to receive the support of his gym Kaisansuk and his trainer Chanrit Sit-O.

Fighters like Caan enjoy what they do and enjoy their craft. Right after the bout he said simply, “I can’t wait to get back in there.”

Make sure to stay tuned in for Max’s Ultimate show every Sunday night at 7:20pm. Ringside at the Max Muay Thai Stadium, broadcast on channel 8 and livestreaming on the fite.tv app
